Having spent no small amount of time over the course of my life watching Loony Tunes, I have to confess that I am still unclear as to whether the coyote that chases the roadrunner is the same character as the coyote who somewhat infrequently serves as an antagonist to Bugs Bunny.

The latter speaks and introduces himself as “Wile E. Coyote”. I think at some point he even hands Bugs a business card that has his name printed on it.

As far as I can remember, though, the coyote that chases the roadrunner never speaks. Is there maybe some point when we see the shipping label on one of the Acme products he orders and it has his name on it? I always hear people talking about this one as Wile E. Coyote, but I remain unconvinced; they seem quite different in personality.

The whole thing is made even more confusing by the Ralph & Sam cartoons. I’m pretty sure that Ralph is supposed to be a wolf, but he’s drawn very similarly (exactly the same?) as the two coyotes.
