Sadly, the trusty Lettera 22 needs to go to the repair shop:

Something has gone wrong with the carriage advance mechanism and the carriage now zips all the way to left and won’t advance whenever I hit backspace or the carriage return bar. I took the case off and had a peek underneath, but whatever is wrong with it is beyond my meager diagnostic skills and I don’t want to compound the problem.

I am, however, pretty happy to have a shop that still repairs old typewriters about five minutes from my house.
