Today is one of those days when Facebook seems to have decide that every other post in my feed should be an ad. It is annoying, but it provides the opportunity to point out one of the many shitty, tricksy things they do.

See that Like button? See how it is right next to the three dots that lead to the 17-step “Hide ad” process? On a mobile display, there is 2-3mm of space between them, which makes it really easy to hit Like when what you are trying to do instead is to get rid of the ad.

There is zero chance that the placement of these two button—and therefore the high likelihood of accidental Likes—is not deliberate. Facebook wants you to Like stuff (even if by mistake) because that looks better to the advertisers who are paying the bills, and they are happy to make their UI worse if it helps achieve that end.
