I feel like everyone scratching their heads in consternation about the ongoing flurry of cancellations and disappointing programming decisions at HBO Max by Warner Bros. Discovery is forgetting that the creation of interesting and compelling shows is only a side-product of these companies' business models.

If Warner Bros. Discovery think they can make more money by cancelling Westworld and pulling old series from distribution, they will absolutely do that.

Mind you, I’m not saying it is right, or that a business model based on selling advertising and subscriptions wrapped in lowest-common-demoninator programming is good. It’s just the scorpion doing what is in its nature to do.
