This is season 1, episode 6, and we are reading Chapter 6 of The Great God Pan, an 1894 novella by Arthur Machen.
Mr. Villiers and his friend Austin digest the news of a sudden rash of suicides that has struck London society. One of these incidents hits surprisingly close to home for Villiers.
A note of caution: There are several after-the-fact descriptions of suicide in this chapter of the story. If that is not a topic you want to get into, you may want to consider sitting this one out and getting caught up next time.
