A positive COVID test is one of the few things Trump *isn't* faking.

I will admit that when I read this morning’s news that Trump had tested positive for COVID-19, one of the first thoughts that went through my head was that it wasn’t true.

These guys are liars and crooks, and we shouldn’t trust a single word out of their mouths. This news will shove everything else out of the media spotlight, disrupt the final month of the race, give Trump an excuse to skip the remaining debates, and possibly win him some sympathy.

Even so, I think the news of Trump testing positive is true.

For one thing, they only announced his positive test after Bloomberg News broke the story that Hope Hicks had tested positive, and everything I’ve read so far indicates that the White House had hoped to keep Hicks' diagnosis secret.

More importantly, though, is that Trump lives for his campaign rallies and glad-handing with sycophantic supporters. I think there is no way he would voluntarily give that all of up and quarantine for two weeks unless he were forced to do so.

As I said in a reply on Facebook earlier today, these guys are crooks, but they’re not Hans Gruber super-criminals. They are stupid and short-sighted, and we need to stop reading movie villain strategy into everything they do.
