“The Hunger” – Talking Points Memo:

In so many ways he’s wildly different from his supporters. But this personal sense of exclusion, this need for affirmation, the intense feeling of grievance and hunger for payback that are central to his politics are experiences and drives he comes to personally. They’re clearly deep in his personal make up, what are probably a host of ugly childhood experiences. They’re salient political forces in the US for broader social and cultural reasons. But him they’re deeply personal. And that’s why a Manhattan libertine, born to money and privilege, as irreligious as a rock or a log, can have such a mindmeld with so many in the country who share none of his background.
