I finished John Scalzi’s The Collapsing Empire last night. If you’re looking for a fairly light space-opera romp that zips along, you could do a lot worse than this book.
I mostly enjoyed the book, although I found Scalzi’s snarky style slightly off-putting throughout. I don’t think he’s a bad writer—the plot is compelling and the characters are engaging. Rather, I found the style to be a little out of sync with the subject matter.
Nonetheless, I will probably pick up the the next book in the series.
