I will confess that I don’t really understand the existence of what seems to be a cottage industry on the internet devoted to trying to convince me that an iPad can replace my laptop.

If that works for you, great, and I can see that figuring out scripting and shortcut-based workarounds for the limitations of iOS could be both fun and rewarding. That said, there seems to be a subset of folks who are pathologically devoted to this cause.
