I love this idea. It seems like a much better plan than paying Tesla or whoever to manufacture tons of no -recyclable batteries full of chemicals that will end up in rivers and oceans.
@petebrown This is a fascinating idea. And might address energy storage at national scale. However, I think what Tesla aims with Powerwall and likes is to allow storgae at Individual level, which would be key for solar/wind at homes.
@amit Sure, if the individual homes are off-grid… but at least where I live (MA), just about all the home solar is still connected to the grid via net metering.
@petebrown Well, I have recently heard a lot of talk where homes aim to be self-sufficient – pull nothing from the grid, just contribute to it. I think that dream won’t be possible without some form of individual storage at homes. May be am reading something wrong.
